What is a Crochet Lovey Baby Blanket?

A crochet lovey baby blanket is a small crochet blanket that a child can snuggle up with to feel secure and cozy. Lovey blankets are for a baby older than 12 months and should be used with the supervision of an adult at all times.

The Yarn

The yarn we will be using for this lovey is Brava Worsted by WeCrochet & Knit Picks. It is 100% acrylic as well as machine washable and dryable which is a must for a baby blanket that will more than likely get constant use.

Brava Worsted Yarn

It is available in many colors so you will have a wide range of colors to pick from for this lovey and for the stars you attach. With these many options you will be able to create a unique baby blanket that is just your style. For the example shown below I used Dove Heather & White for the main blanket.

Do you need a substitute yarn? Try Pound of Love from Lion Brand or Vanna’s Choice by Lion Brand. They both have a similar look and feel!

The Stitches for a Lovey Blanket

This whole lovey is worked just with double crochets! If you can crochet the double crochet stitch you can make this blanket! It does include some double crocheting stitches which is a decrease to create the ripples but it is still very easy to pick up on.

Make sure to look over the stitch definition & picture below so you will know how to decrease. This blanket also includes a single crochet border but it is optional if you’d prefer this lovey without a border. You could also use a different border for this blanket if you’d like too! The possibilities are endless! Keep on reading down for the free pattern! Happy Crocheting!
