The Yarn That is Perfect for This Newborn Hat

I decided to make this easy crochet newborn hat with Vanna’s choice in pink by Lion brand yarn which is a medium weight yarn.

Why use this yarn?

Well, it is especially easy it is to crochet with! I like to work with Vanna’s Choice because they have an awesome variety of colors to pick from and it is so durable.

It uses simple stitches and quick flower design.

Crochet Newborn Flower Hat Pattern

Crochet Newborn Hat Pattern

Skill Level: Easy

Materials

  • Lion Brand Vanna’s choice yarn in pink or any other medium weight (4) yarn
  • Crochet hook size J 6.00 mm
  • Scissors
  • Yarn needle

Gauge

  • Gauge is 9 double crochets for every 4 inches.

Sizing

  • Finished size fits a preemie/newborn which is approximately a 12″ circumference and 5″ length

Pattern Steps

Round 1: ch 3, double crochet in 3rd chain from hook, double crochet 9 more times in 3rd chain from the hook for a total of 10 double crochets. slip stitch to top of first double crochet.

Round 2: ch 2, 2 double crochets in every chain around for a total of 20 double crochets, slip stitch to top of first double crochet.

Round 3: ch 2, * 1 double crochet in next st, 2 double crochets in next st, repeat from * around for a total of 30 double crochets, slip stitch to top of first double crochet.

Round 4-7: ch 2, dc in every st around for a total of 30 double crochets. slip stitch to top of first double crochet.

Round 8: ch 1, single crochet in every st around, slip stitch to the top of the first single crochet.

Finishing: Fasten off and weave in loose ends with the yarn needle.

Flower Pattern

Round 1: ch 3, double crochet in 3rd chain from hook, double crochet 9 more times in 3rd chain from the hook for a total of 10 double crochets. slip stitch to top of first double crochet.

Round 2: ch 2, * bobble in next chain, 2 slip stitches in next chain, repeat from * around for a total of 5 bobbles (petals), end with a slip stitch in first slip stitch of the previous round.

Finishing: Fasten off and weave in the loose ends of yarn with a yarn needle. Attach flower to hat securely with a yarn needle and then you are done with your hat!

    Hi there, I was wondering if you would know the amount of stitches necessary for a slightly larger newborn hat size? I love the pattern and style and it’s so easy but the size of the finished hat seems like it would fit more of a premmie than a newborn
