The Yarn

When I designed this hat, I used one of my favorite soft yarns, which is Wool Spun by Lion Brand Yarn!

It has an amazingly soft and thick which is perfect to keep your noggin warm! The color choices that Lion Brand offers are wonderful for this yarn line, so you will not be disappointed.

Update 2024: Since I wrote this post, Woolspun has sadly been discontinued, but I recommend using Paint Box Simply Chunky as a good replacement yarn. It has a similar texture and feel, so it would be perfect for this hat!

Learn more about this chunky yarn below.

Simply Chunky

This yarn is made by Paintbox Yarn, and is a Weight 5 – Bulky yarn.

*Please keep in mind that if you use a different weight yarn (apart from a five weight) that the hat will not turn out the same as the photos.

Make This Beanie With or Without Buttons

I love a little something extra added to my crochet pieces, so I sewed on a coconut shell button onto this hat to do just that!

This particular button can be found in various sizes, and I think any size would look good on this hat. If you prefer a crochet hat without buttons, just leave the button off. It is as easy as that!

    1. The beanie looks super cute but I’m really confused about the stitch count on row 4, I don’t understand how we go from 11 22 33 50 row 4 should be 44 with the increases also are you counting the ch2 as the first double crochet?

      1. Hi,
Round four ends with a stitch count of 50 because it is worked with 2 dcs in a stitch followed by 1 dc in the next stitch around. It then ends with 2 dcs in the last stitch, which is a total of 50 stitches total for the round.

        Happy Crocheting!
