Bobble Crochet Baby Blanket (7 Sizes)

If you are looking for a beautiful baby girl or baby boy crochet blanket to make, then this baby blanket design might be the one for you. This is one of my favorite baby blankets to date that I have designed, so I hope you enjoy it!

The whole blanket uses only three simple stitches, which creates a unique look. It uses the bobble stitch mixed with the single and half double crochet, so it is doable for a beginner.

I think that if you’re newer to crochet and want to try something a bit harder than a washcloth or square, then you’ll really enjoy making this baby blanket pattern.

The most important thing to know about this blanket is to make sure you fully understand the bobble stitch, so make sure to go over that section fully before beginning this blanket.

Read below to learn about the stitches and the yarn used in the bobble blanket, so you’ll be ready to crochet this anytime you want.

The Crochet Stitches

This easy to make and let’s not forget adorable baby blanket is worked up with rows of half double crochet (hdc) stitches followed by single crochet and bobble stitches, which are then worked in a pattern repeat.

Each crochet stitch that is used in this blanket is explained with more detail in the pattern below and has a link to a tutorial for extra help if it is needed.

The combination of these different stitches along with the yarn used makes the texture of this bobble stitch blanket pop.

The Yarn

For the entire baby blanket, I used Bernat Softee Baby yarn, a three lightweight soft, 100% acrylic yarn in the color soft peach.

The best part about this yarn is that it can easily be machine washed and dried, which is important with a baby since this blanket will more than likely need frequent cleaning.

Important: The entire blanket is made by holding two skeins or strands of yarn together at the same time. For the receiving size baby blanket size shown, you’ll need 6 skeins of Bernat Softee Baby yarn.

Tip: For the lovey blanket size, you could get away with using one skein of yarn by pulling it apart and cutting it in half. However, it may be easier to purchase 2 full skeins instead.

Substitution

If you have trouble finding this yarn, any #3 weight yarn can be substituted. Take a look below at a few good yarn substitution options for your soon-to-be made baby blanket design.

Here are some great yarn substitutions if you find yourself having trouble finding Bernat Softee Baby:

One last thing, be sure to take a look at the size and yardage charts in the pattern below. This way, you’ll know exactly how much yarn is needed for the size blanket you wish to make.

Do you need a different size blanket? No problem! If you’d like to make a different size blanket apart from this blanket size, then you are in luck! This easy crochet baby blanket is available (for free) in seven bonus blanket sizes below.

Happy crocheting!

  4. Hi Krista,
I have my third grandchild, and first grandson, coming in June. We are all very excited. I am making a quilt but also have chosen this pattern to make a blanket for him. I have chosen a dk blue yarn. I am just getting started but I can already picture him bundled up in it.

Thanks so much for this pattern. His momma is going to love it too.

  5. Your Bobble Stitch is what was known as the Popcorn Stitch when I was learning from old old Pros of Crochet. In 1950s They were from 1908. So nothing new here. Been there done it and still doing All the Needle Arts!
