The Inspiration Behind This Crochet Throw

Use the free crochet blanket pattern below to create the Willow blanket!

The inspiration behind this design is from my A & S’s room! (My boys!) Their bed quilts have bold, intense colors like the ones I picked for this blanket, and I wanted this throw to be similar so it would match their room.

I also picked bulky yarn because we live in PA, and it is always cold here! Since we are smack-dab in the middle of the cold season, S was so excited when I finished this blanket and has been wearing it around all week!

The Yarn For This Blanket

For the entire blanket, I used Hometown USA yarn by Lion Brand, which has colors named after quite a bit of different cities in the USA. You never know, maybe yours is there because mine was. Yep! Pittsburgh.

As for the blanket, I decided to go with a few colors that popped out to me, and I love how the colors blended so well together. If these yarn colors aren’t your style, then feel free to chose colors that speak to you.

  1. I have thoroughly enjoyed this project. This is the first pattern I have followed vs a video tutorial. Thank you for making it clear & easy to understand!

  2. Hi! Sorry, I’m kinda new to reading patterns. When starting row 2, are you working in the back loop? Thank you?

  3. I have a lot of 4 weight yarn in multiple colors that I would like to use for This pattern. Would I still start with the same number of stitches in my chain? I’m sort of new to this but feel I have enough experience to tackle this pattern.

    1. Hi Nancy,
You can use a four weight yarn, but it will turn out smaller if you follow along with the pattern as written. To make it bigger, you’d increase the starting chain multiple and work as written. If you have any questions, I’d be happy to help.

  4. For rows 5-46 when you say repeat rows 3&4 are you referring to that as the patter

    Row 5 would be 3
    Row 6 would be 4

Or do I do 3&4 for each row?

  5. The color way Charlotte blue is no longer available.
I can’t decide is I want to go with Portland wine or Miami sea foam.
I looked at Kentucky blue is doesn’t go well it’s too bright. Help me pick!

  6. I’m doing the Willow Chair throw. Following your color chart – the Tampa Spice chart has row 6-8 which is 3 rows but looking at the actual throw it only looks like 2 rows. And when I count the total rows from your color chart I only count 46 rows not 47.
    Am I doing something wrong?

  7. Do you have a material list and pattern for he photo in the pin that is made with the muted colors?
    I love this. Thanks
