This Hat Uses Simple Stitches!
Since this hat project only uses basic crochet stitches it works up fairly quickly (about an hour) and makes the perfect last-minute gift.

I used Lion Brand Vanna’s Choice in Oatmeal because of the neutral color and also because this color can be worn with just about anything!

Simple Crochet Button Hat Pattern
Skill Level: Basic
Materials
- Clover Amour crochet hook, size J, 6.0 mm
- Lion Brand Vanna’s Choice Yarn in Oatmeal or any worsted weight (4) yarn.
- Yarn needle
- Scissors
- Large brown 2 hole coconut shell buttons
Finished Size
- 22″ circumference {Stretches to approximately 24 INCH CIRCUMFERENCE} and an 8″ length
Crochet Abbreviations
- SC = Single Crochet
- DC = Double Crochet
- ST = Stitch
- SL ST = Slip Stitch
- CH = Chain
Notes
- Gauge is approximately 10 DC for every 4 Inches
- The SL ST’s in each round do not count as a ST. (Skip it)
- Remember to Sl ST to top of first DC not the CH 2.
- Pattern is written in standard US terms
The Pattern Steps
- To Start: Chain 3
- Round 1: 11 DC’s in 3rd chain from hook, SL ST to top of first DC.
- Round 2: CH 2, 2 DC’s in every ST around, SL ST to top of first DC.
- Round 3: CH 2, *1 DC in next ST, 2 DC in next ST, repeat from * around, SL ST to top of first DC.
- Round 4: CH 2, * 2 DC’s in next ST, 1 DC in next ST, repeat from * around, SL ST to top of first DC.
- Round 5: CH 2, DC in every ST around, SL ST to top of first DC.
- Round 6- 12: Repeat round 5
- Round 13 -15: CH 1, SC in every ST around. SL ST to top of the first SC after round 15. Fasten off.
Finishing:
- Attach buttons to side of hat with yarn
- Weave in the ends throughout hat with yarn needle.
This pattern was so quick and easy to whip up I think I will make one for every color. It is really cute and an easy start. I did mine in a sage green and added purple buttons, looks great. Thank you
