The Bobble Stitch in Crochet

The bobble stitch is one of those crochet stitches that looks intimidating, but it is quite easy to work up!

The bobble is a cluster of five double crochets together which creates a puff- liked texture which is perfect for adding extra detail to patterns such as this pillow cover. The bobble stitch adds such fantastic detail and texture to any pattern, and this pillow cover is no exception!

  • Yo (yarn over) insert hook into designated st (stitch) in row and pick up a loop. Yo draw yarn through 2 loops (3 loops)
  • Yo insert hook into same st, yo draw through 2 loops (4 loops)
  • Yo insert hook into same st, yo draw through 2 loops (5 loops)
  • Yo insert hook into same st, yo draw through 2 loops (6 loops)
  • Yo draw yarn through all 6 loops on hook, tighten down
  • One bo is now complete!

For this pillow case, I decided to go with a bobble triangle pattern design to showcase the bobbles and give it a modern flair!

The Yarn

For this pillow cover, I decided to work with one of my favorite yarns, Lion Brand Wool-Ease Thick & Quick. I used the colorway Linen for the primary pillow color and Fossil for the bobbles.

You’ll find that this pillow design goes perfectly with my blanket design, the Jane Crochet Throw, if you’d like to make a matching set for your home.

Great Pillow Pattern for Beginners!

This crochet pillow cover is also great for beginners since it uses almost only single crochets! The front panel is worked in a combination of single & bobble crochet stitches, while the back is worked entirely of single crochets!

Doing the bobble stitch in crochet is one of my favorite crochet stitches to work up (and it is easy), so I KNEW I had to create something I could see every day with this beginner-friendly stitch in it. I can’t wait to see you guys make this easy pillow pattern.
