How to Crochet a Houndstooth Pattern Stitch

A houndstooth stitch in crochet is made by alternating a double crochet and single crochet stitch with two contrasting colors row after row. Below, I will refer to the yarn colors as Color A and Color B.

Foundation Row: Chain a foundation chain in a multiple of 2 with color A

Row 1: Ch 1 (counts as single crochet), In the 3rd chain from the hook double crochet, *single crochet into the next chain, double crochet in the next chain, repeat from * across the row, turn.

Row 2: Change to Color B, Ch 1 (counts as a single crochet), double crochet into the next stitch, *single crochet into the next st, repeat from * across, turn.

Row 3 to ?: Repeat row 2 changing colors from A to B for each row.
