Slouchy hats are a great way to keep your head and ears warm during the winter, plus they are easy to knit! There are many types of knit hats you can make, but slouchy hats are my personal favorite. Below, I found some of the best free slouchy knit hats you can make today!

A slouchy hat is a type of hat that is designed to be worn loosely so that it hangs down over the wearer’s ears. Slouchy hats are often made from a soft, stretchy yarn so that they can be easily pulled on and off the head.
Materials to Make a Slouch Hat
To make a knit slouch, you will need yarn, knitting needles, a pair of scissors, measuring tape and a pattern!
- Yarn: You can use any almost any type of yarn for a slouchy hat. I go more into detail about a few of my favorites below and what to look for in a yarn when making a slouchy hat.
- Knitting Needles: The type of knitting needles you require will depend on the pattern you are making. Make sure to browse through each hat pattern to see if you have the knitting needle size that is required.
- Other Knit Notions: A pair of scissors (I prefer stork scissors) and a good tape measure will also come in handy in most slouch hat designs.
What are the Best Yarns for Knitting a Slouchy Hat?
When choosing yarn for a slouchy hat, you’ll want to choose a yarn that is soft, stretchy, and lightweight. Yarns like acrylic, wool, and cotton are all good choices for knitting a slouchy hat.
