Free Cozy Crochet Hat Pattern
I know summer is just beginning, but I was in the mood to crochet up this winter hat. Plus, this cozy crochet hat uses simple stitches and only cost me about three dollars to make!

The Yarn That You’ll Want to Use for This Hat
I used Vanna’s Choice for the entire pattern and I highly recommend it because of the wonderful colors there are available.
You can crochet a hat in almost any color you can think of if you use Vanna’s so have fun and be sure to explore the colors!

Skill Level: Easy
Materials
- A Size US 3.75 MM F Crochet Hook
- Medium 4 Worsted Weight Yarn – I used Vanna’s Choice
- Yarn Needle
- Scissors

Ch = chain
Notes
- Child Size Hat
- Finished Size Measures Approximately 8 Inches Wide (when laying flat) and 8 Inches High
- CH 1 counts a 1st Single Crochet throughout
- Written in Standard US terms
The Hat Pattern Steps
Begin with Bottom Band:
- Chain 11, sc in the second ch from the hook and continue across until the end of row, Ch 1, Turn
- Row 1: Working through back loop only this row and here on out, Sk the first st, work 1 sc in each st across, Ch 1, turn.
- Repeat Row 1 for 58 Rows, Do not fasten off after row 58.
- Ch 1
- Make 58 Single Crochets along the top long side of the band, Ch 1, Turn
Next:
- Work 1 Single Crochet in Next Stitch, *1 Single Crochet, 1 Double Crochet in next Stitch, Skip 1 Stitch, Repeat from * across ending with 1 Single Crochet in the Last Chain, Chain 2, Turn
- Row 1: * Work 1 Single Crochet, 1 Double Crochet In next Stitch, Skip 1, repeat from * across until end of row. End with 1 Double Crochet in The Last Chain, Chain 1, Turn
- Row 2: Work 1 Double Crochet in the same Stitch as the Last Chain, *1 Single Crochet, 1 Double Crochet in next Stitch, Skip 1 Stitch, Repeat from * across until end of the row, end with 1 Single Crochet in the Last Chain.
- Repeat Rows 1 & 2 for a total of 12 Rows
For Top Shape of Hat:
- Row 1: * Single Crochet in each next 8 Stitches, Single Crochet 2 together, Repeat from * Across, end with 1 Single Crochet, Chain 1 , Turn.
- Row 2: Single Crochet in each of next 2 Stitches, Single Crochet 2 Together, * Single Crochet in of next 5 Stitches, Single Crochet 2 Together, repeat from * Across, end in 1 Single Crochet, Ch 1 , Turn.
- Row 3: Single Crochet 2 Together, *Single Crochet in each of Next 3 Stitches, Single Crochet 2 Together. Repeat from * Across, end with 3 Single Crochets, Ch 1, Turn.
- Row 4: Single Crochet 2 Together, *Single Crochet in each of Next 3 Stitches, Single Crochet 2 Together. Repeat from * Across, end with 1 Single Crochets, Ch 1, Turn.
- Row 5: Single Crochet 2 Together, *Single Crochet in each of Next 3 Stitches, Single Crochet 2 Together. Repeat from * Across, end with 2 Single Crochets Together, Ch 1, Turn.
- Row 6: Single Crochet 2 Together, *Single Crochet in each of Next 3 Stitches, Single Crochet 2 Together. Repeat from * Across, end with 2 Single Crochets Together, Ch 1, Turn.
- Row 7: Single Crochet 2 Together across entire row, end with 1 Single Crochet, Chain 1, Turn.
- Row 8: Single Crochet 2 Together across entire row. Leave a 24 Inch Piece of Yarn for Sewing Later
Finishing
- Sew the Back Seam of Hat, Using the Yarn Needle and the Long Yarn that was left, weave in ends.
- Attach new Yarn to the bottom band of Hat and do a row of Single Crochets for a border. Weave in ends when done.
- Fold up the bottom band of the hat
