Great Crochet Square Pattern to Use up Extra Yarn!
This crochet square pattern is a result of me having so much extra yarn lying around that it was a necessity that I think of some way to use it up. Scroll on down to find the full, free square motif pattern! 🙂
After some brainstorming and numerous design changes, I finally got this pattern exactly how I envisioned it in my head. If you have extra yarn lying around which I am sure almost every crocheter does then this project is for you! 🙂
The Yarn That’s Perfect for These Crochet Squares
To make these crochet squares, I used Lion Brand Vanna’s Choice since it is my favorite to go acrylic yarn in Espresso, Linen, and Mustard.

Patterns Using This →Red Heart Soft
Patterns Using This →The aqua color (Deep Sea) is from Red Heart Yarns and is part of the Red Heart Soft line. If you do not have these yarns, don’t worry, any worsted weight yarn will work, such as Caron Simply Soft.
Easy to Make Squares!
These little squares are super easy to make and really do work up fast! I think I see a square motif blanket pattern coming soon!
I will need to get started on asap since I have so many designs already in progress. I am a chronic project starter! Is that a thing?
But, I am so happy that this little crochet square turned out to be the perfect way to use up all my extra yarn! I can’t wait for you to try them!

Crochet Square Motif Pattern
Skill Level: Easy
Shopping List
4 different colors of worsted weight (4) yarn. I used Lion Brand’s Vanna’s Choice in Mustard, Linen, and Espresso. The aqua color is Red Heart Soft in Deep Sea.
Size J crochet hook – 6 mm
Yarn needle
Crochet Abbreviations
sc = single crochet
dc = double crochet
sl st = slip stitch
ch = chain
st = stitch
Finished Size
The finished square size is approx. 5.5″ X 5.5″.
The Pattern Steps
ch 3, dc 12 times into 3rd chain from hook. sl st to top of the first dc. Join in a new color.
chain 1, sc in next st, ch 2, sc again in the same stitch.
*sc in next stitch, ch 2, sc again in the same stitch. Repeat from * around for a total of 12 clusters. sl st to top of first sc. Join in new colors.
ch 2, *dc in next ch 2 space, ch 2, dc in same ch 2 space again. Repeat from * around for a total of 12 clusters. Sl st to top of the first dc. Join in a new color.
ch 2. dc two times in next ch 2 space, dc 3 times in next chain 2 space, ch 2, then dc again 3 times in the same chain 2 space. (corner), dc 2 times in the next ch 2 space. dc 2 times in the next ch 2 space. dc 3 times in next chain 2 space, ch 2, then dc again 3 times in same chain 2 space. (corner) dc 2 times in the next ch 2 space. dc 2 times in the next ch 2 space. dc 3 times in next chain 2 space, ch 2, then dc again 3 times in same chain 2 space. (corner) dc 2 times in the next ch 2 space. dc 2 times in the next ch 2 space. dc 3 times in next chain 2 space, ch 2, then dc again 3 times in same chain 2 space. (corner) dc 2 times in the next ch 2 space. join with a sl st to top of the first dc.
Finishing
Fasten off and weave in ends to complete a square!
