Striped Baby Blanket

You’ll love crocheting this blanket because it uses easy stitches, easy to find yarn and is small, which means it works up fast. Learn more below about the stitches, yarn and more before you get started.

The Stitches

This baby blanket design uses basic crochet stitches, which means it’s beginner-friendly and easy to crochet. Learn more about each stitch below.

Double Crochet (dc): 

  1. Wrap the yo the crochet hook, insert the hook into the specified st.
  2. Yo the hook again, draw the yarn through the st, so there are 3 loops on the hook
  3. Yo the hook again draw it through 2 loops, so there are 2 loops on the hook
  4. Yo the hook, draw it through the final 2 loops.

Single Crochet (sc):

  1. Insert hook from front to back in the second chain from the hook.
  2. Bring the yo the hook and pull the yarn back through the chain from back to front (2 loops on hook).
  3. Yo and pull through both loops on the hook.

The Yarn

This entire baby blanket is crocheted with Vanna’s Choice from Lion Brand. It is a four weight yarn that is 100% acrylic and is available in various beautiful colors.

The yarn colors really lend themselves to blending well with most decor and if you prefer changing up the colors in this baby blanket, the possibilities are endless. I can’t wait to see the color combinations you come up with

Crochet Pattern Neutral Striped Baby Blanket

Skill Level: Easy

Materials

  • Crochet hook: 6 mm (J10)
  • Yarn needle & scissors
  • Lion Brand Yarn Vanna’s Choice (or any medium #4 weight yarn)
    • Small: 85 yards each of gray marble (C), taupe (D), charcoal gray (B) and 170 yards of oatmeal (A). 
    • Large: 170 yards each of gray marble (C), taupe (D), charcoal gray (B) and 340 yards of oatmeal (A).

Abbreviations

Finished Size

Two sizes available:

  • Small 21”×16”
  • Large 42”×32”

Gauge

  • 4 inches = 5 dc & sc clusters 

Notes

  • Yarn will be referred to as color A, B, C & D.
  • Weave in yarn ends as you go.

The Pattern

SMALL BLANKET PATTERN (21” x 16”)

  • Foundation Row: Ch 43 with Color A
  • Row 1: dc in 3rd ch from hook, sk 1 st, *dc & sc in next st. sk 1 st, rep from * across until the end, finish with 1 dc in last st, turn. (40)
  • Row 2: ch 2, dc in the first st, sk 1 st, *dc & sc in next st. sk 1 st. rep from * across until the end of row. Finish with 1 dc in top of turning ch, turn.(40)
  • Row 3-8: repeat row 2. (40)
  • Row 9: Change color to Color B, ch 2, dc in the 1st st, sk 1 st, *dc & sc in next st. sk 1 st. rep from * across until the end of row. Finish with 1 dc in top of turning ch, turn. (40)
  • Row 10-16: repeat row 2. (40)
  • Row 17: Change to Color C, ch 2, dc in the 1st st, sk 1 st, *dc & sc in next st. sk 1 st. rep from * across until the end of row. Finish with 1 dc in top of turning ch, turn. (40)
  • Row 18 – 24: Repeat row 2. (40)
  • Row 25: Change to Color D, ch 2, dc in the first st, sk 1 st, *dc & sc in next st. sk 1 st. rep from * across until the end of row. Finish with 1 dc in top of turning ch, turn. (40)
  • Row 27 – 32: Repeat row 2. (40)
  • Row 33: Change to Color A, ch 2, dc in the first st, sk 1 st, *dc & sc in next st. sk 1 st. rep from * across until the end of row. Finish with 1 dc in top of turning ch, turn. (40)
  • Row 34 – 40: Repeat Row 2.
  • Finishing: Fasten off after row 40 and weave in loose ends with a yarn needle. (40)

LARGE BLANKET PATTERN (42” x 32”)

  • Foundation Row: Ch 83 with Color A.
  • Row 1: dc in 3rd ch from hook, sk 1 st, *dc & sc in next st. sk 1 st, rep from * across until the end, finish with 1 dc in last st, turn. (80)
  • Row 2: ch 2, dc in the first st, sk 1 st, *dc & sc in next st. sk 1 st. rep from * across until the end of row. Finish with 1 dc in top of turning ch, turn. (80)
  • Row 3-16: repeat row 2. (80)
  • Row 17: Change to Color B, ch 2, dc in the first st, sk 1 st, *dc & sc in next st. sk 1 st. rep from * across until the end of row. Finish with 1 dc in top of turning ch, turn. (80)
  • Row 18 – 32: Repeat row 2. (80)
  • Row 33: Change to Color C, ch 2, dc in the first st, sk 1 st, *dc & sc in next st. sk 1 st. rep from * across until the end of row. Finish with 1 dc in top of turning ch, turn. (80)
  • Row 34 – 49: Repeat row 2. (80)
  • Row 50: Change  to Color C, ch 2, dc in the first st, sk 1 st, *dc & sc in next st. sk 1 st. rep from * across until the end of row. Finish with 1 dc in top of turning ch, turn. (80)
  • Row 51- 64: Repeat row 2. (80)
  • Row 65: Change to Color A, ch 2, dc in the first st, sk 1 st, *dc & sc in next st. sk 1 st. rep from * across until the end of row. Finish with 1 dc in top of turning ch, turn. (80)
  • Row 66 – 80: Repeat Row 2. (80)
  • Finishing: Fasten off and weave in the loose ends throughout the blanket with a yarn needle.
