The Yarn
I used an amazingly soft yarn called Woolspun from Lion Brand Yarn.
This yarn happens to be no longer available as of 2019, so I suggest using Color Made Easy by Lion Brand Yarn.
It is a great bulky five yarn that has a similar feel to it as the Wool spun. You won’t be disappointed!
Check it out below.

Question regarding finishing-should this be after row 7 rather than row 6?
Hi Connie,
Yes it should be 7. I’ve updated the pattern to reflect the change. Thank you for finding this! 🙂
It took me 30 min. to finish one of these. I am absolutely pleased with the way it worked up. Thank you for sharing.
Thank you Andrea! Glad you like it and you are welcome!

I am a beginner at crochet and am attempting this pattern…hope it is not beyond me! Wondering if at the end of round 2 I should be using a slipstitch to join? Thank you!
Hi Laine,
You would use a sl st to join 🙂
I see you said that you made a couple updates to the pattern but I am only seeing the version that is missing them in ravelry.
Hi Terrie,
The link in ravelry goes directly to my page where I have made the updates. Hope this helps 🙂
Is this meant for a child or an adult? 40 chains is coming out way to small.
Hi Tracey,
It is meant for a teen and or adult. The gauge is 8 st’s for every 4″ of headband and is important for the correct sizing. Hope this helps!
Krista
I’m I supposed to be repeating row 2 or row 3? In my mind it would make more sense to continue fpdc.
Thanks
Row 3 🙂 I fixed it! 🙂
Thanks!!! I love this pattern, made such a cute headband. I didn’t have super thick yarn so I added a crab stitch to keep mine from rolling up. The long chain wrapped to finish it is so cute and hides my seam so well. Thanks for posting free patterns. You make learning to crochet fun
You’re welcome! 🙂 I’m glad you are here!
Hi Krista. I love your designs. I am a self-taught crocheter and have used your patterns to make several scarves, your handwarmers, and the Joshua tree beanie. They are easy to understand and all the recipents love them. I would love to try this pattern but am not really clear on how to get started. I of course understand about the beginning chain, but I am puzzled when you say work a fpdc around a chain. I have done both fpdc and bpdc before but they were around the post of an existing dc not a chain stitch. I can’t find any instructions on how to do it. At the risk of sounding dumb, could you please clarify this for me? I have a feeling it is something very basic that I am making harder than it has to be, but I just don’t get it. Thanks so much for your help and for sharing all your wonderful designs.
Hi Linda,
You were right! I left out a round after the ch stitches when I was typing this up! I am glad you caught this for me! I updated the pattern! Thanks again!
Hi Krista. Just finished my first of many ear warmers! Thanks for another great pattern.
You are welcome Linda! 🙂
Hi! Thank you for designing and freely sharing the Cabled Ear Warmer pattern. I whipped up 2 of them last night after spotting the pattern. I used 3 strands of light-weight worsted weight yarn in a bright pink and a kind of spring green. They were quick and easy, so I’ll be doing more for the Sara Spano PTA Clothing Bank where I volunteer. I do all their mending, hemming, and also crochet hats, and sew fleece hats and scarves for the needy children in our school district that go there for wardrobes. It’s a lot of fun! Thank you for your help! (Sorry, I’m not able to send any pics.) Oh, these might be fun done up with homemade t-shirt yarn done up in a bulky yarn weight.
Hi Meri!
Thank you for the nice words! I am glad you are able to use my patterns to help children! 🙂 That is so kind of you! Have a great night and thank you for leaving such a heartwarming comment! 🙂
